iColo: A Digital Realty Company, Kenya’s leading carrier-neutral data center and interconnection hub, today welcomes the completion of Yafibr’s new dark fibre metro ring in Mombasa — a landmark infrastructure development that materially strengthens the resilience and reliability of the region’s digital backbone.
The new ring directly interconnects all major submarine cable landing stations and carrier-neutral data centers across the Mombasa metropolitan area, including iColo’s Mombasa One (MBA1) in Miritini and Mombasa Two (MBA2), creating a more cohesive and resilient digital fabric for Kenya and the wider East African region.
Mombasa is East Africa’s primary digital gateway. According to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), Kenya’s international internet bandwidth exceeded 24 Tbps as of late 2025, connecting the country to more than 25 nations globally via subsea cables landing in Mombasa.

The Yafibr Mombasa metro ring has been purpose-built not only to expand capacity, but to fundamentally transform how the city’s critical infrastructure connects. At its core is a new underground metro ring linking all major cable landing stations and carrier-neutral data centers—including iColo—across the Mombasa metropolitan area. This interconnected design ensures seamless data flow between key digital infrastructure hubs while strengthening the overall resilience and efficiency of the region’s connectivity ecosystem.
